The Rock – Franklin, WI

Michael Zimmerman was looking for community-based investment opportunity in an effort to give back to his boyhood home.  He wanted to provide a regional family destination and transform what most thought of as an eyesore in the city, but he viewed as a diamond in the rough.  In September 2012, he signed a deal with Milwaukee County to lease and completely redevelop the 142-acre property.  The Rock Sports Complex was born.  Perspective Design teamed with Michael Zimmerman to create 12 pristine fields that look over the surrounding wooded suburbs and the ski area has been reshaped to provide a “white knuckle gravity downhill mountain bike park. The lodge at the top of the hill has been totally revitalized and will boast an outdoor bar area that will hold 100 to 150.

This facility will house 12 ball fields, four for adult baseball leagues, four for youths and four for softball. Six of the fields are replicas of Major League ball parks, PNC Park, Fenway Park, AT&T Park & Citizens Bank Park.

The chairlifts have been rebuilt and retrofitted to carry riders and bikes for the downhill trails – more than a half-dozen – ranging from beginner to intermediate to expert. At the top of the hill, a skills area will offer a pump track, jumps, berms and wall rides.

An expert downhill race track on the slope with 250 feet of elevation has been designed with rock drops, rock gardens and jumps, mimicking the downhill courses on the World Cup circuit.

The sports facility is supported by several food islands, umbrella bars, the newly renovated lodge and multiple field service buildings with bathrooms to ensure enjoyment by all.
